Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist and former Columbia University student detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), can be deported if he supported Hamas, a New York attorney has told Newsweek.
Khalil, a legal permanent resident, has been accused of supporting Hamas, which is designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. government. His attorney, however, argues that his detention is a politically motivated attempt to suppress dissent against Israel's military actions in Gaza.
